Senior NERC Compliance Program Manager

Position Summary:  

Our client, a leading provider of NERC training and compliance services for clients in the electric power industry, is seeking an experienced power system professional who will provide NERC compliance consulting services to power utilities and generators throughout the US and Canada.  This person will have responsibility for compliance consulting services dealing with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and respective Regional Entity Reliability Compliance Programs at perspective client sites. This position reports to the Manager of Compliance Consulting.


Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Lead consulting engagements including the direction of assigned compliance human resources.
  • Participate in client proposal definition and analysis and prepare compliance programs and materials.
  • Coordinate information gathering and data dissemination with clients in preparation for gap analyses and mock audits, including participation in pre-audit phone calls to discuss audit process and explain pre-audit questionnaire.
  • Identify project deliverables, milestones, required tasks and resources for project completion.
  • Ensure all client work products are completed according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology and are reviewed prior to delivery.
  • Train staff subject matter expertise on compliance services and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Manager of Compliance Consulting with compliance program and services development.
  • Maintain compliance program materials including procedures and documentation to ensure they reflect the latest Standards, Requirements, and ERO programs to ensure accuracy and consistency in client engagements.
  • Maintain job knowledge to ensure expertise on NERC/RE reliability and compliance standards and requirements.



Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience Required: 

  • Ten years relevant experience in the area of ERO/RE Compliance Monitoring and the application of the NERC Standards and Internal Compliance Program concepts in an electric power industry environment (electric utility, power generator, or ISO/RTO organization, RE). Relay Protection knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Significant experience either participating on NERC or Regional Entity audit teams or providing gap analysis and mock audit services as a compliance consultant.  Multi-region experience desired.
  • Excellent communication skills (presentation, verbal, and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit technical documents including policies, procedures, and client documents (RSAWs, Attestations, engagement reports, etc.)
  • Strong Interpersonal and people-management skills – supervisory experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Project Management software. Knowledge in MS Access a plus.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience Preferred:

  • In-depth knowledge of interconnected transmission system operations, generation characteristics, and electric utility power system control systems and practice
  • Knowledge of e-learning software and content development tools such as Articulate (Studio and Storyline), and familiarity with graphic design, illustration, and flash development when used in developing on-line training
